I am now alive and free //cries and goes to do the other 1000 things left to do

Profile:

Mediocrity won’t do. Only my best.

       ◆ Name: Degory Jonah Compton.

       ◆ Age: 18, appears to be 21.

       ◆ Gender: Male.

       ◆ Height: 5’7”

       ◆ Weight: 135 lbs | Underweight

       ◆ Birthday: November 10th

◆ Nationality: Mornica [Ancestors were Thereoneans]

Personality:

◆ Dedicated ◆ Articulate ◆ Conciliatory ◆ Loyal  ◆ Cooperative

◆ Short-tempered ◆ Confidential ◆ Discontented ◆ A bit naive

Degory, though not being as dutiful as his older brother, will be devoted and will try his very best to fulfil either a task, a purpose or a wish. When it comes to work and duties, he’s somewhat single-minded, cooperative and the integrity is strong on him, or so he tries. When it comes to relationships, he’s loyal and honest -sometimes somewhat blunt-, though that would be only with his family, close friends, or,  in general, only people he gets to know well; however, if you’re a stranger/acquaintance he’s mostly indifferent and inconstant. If he ever gets in a problem about anything at which he never really even cared about in the first place, his ability of speaking fluently and coherently will, most of the time though not always, let him swiftly slip out of it.

His nature of being intended or likely to placate or pacify people is of good use to him when he encounters himself in the middle of some sort of argument or deal, he’s able to judge evenly whichever side he’s presented with, seeing both the pros and the cons. Though, when someone simply decides to not listen to him and be reasonable, he becomes irritable and volatile, which leads him to snap at people [and say thing he doesn’t really means], doesn’t matter who they are.

Because of deep and very complicated reasons involving his family, plus his naiveness to some matters, has left him to become someone very discontented with his past and life decisions, adding the confidentiality he manages, leads people to not know what’s he’s actually thinking or feeling at times; especially times of struggle. Degory is, generally, a ‘balanced’ and pleasant young man, if not exposed to things that definitely won’t bring out the best of him.

Background:

Pre-Conception:

Even with a normal, problem-free live back at Thereon, Degory’s ancestors, thirsty for a little more of wealth, —because of course, more wouldn’t hurt them, right?— decided to start a farming business back in Mornica; with time and work, their farming business eventually became a big success selling crops, as an obvious result, their wealth and income increased. Everything was going just fine and happy for the Compton’s, what they didn’t really thought of was that their greediness would come with a consequence. They didn’t knew how it started nor they remembered how it happened…

” I t   w a s   s o   s u d d e n l y ,  t h e   f l a m e s   s p r e a d i n g….  W e   c o u l d n ‘ t   d o   a n y t h i n g …. ”

After a big fire, their big lands and its soils became decrepit due to the lack of farming. The lands could be salvaged and usable once again, with more time and more work, but the ancestors, thinking the fire left nothing more but unusable lands, neglected their grounds and disregarded the possibility of one more chance, another opportunity to not let the upcoming generation struggle, since all of their fortune was on that farm…

With the pass of time, Mary and Henry would meet in their young adult years; the two persons who would eventually marry, who would eventually become parents and who would take care of their so loved children. Even though their poor lifestyle and struggles, they held together.

Childhood:

Degory’s and Dallas childhood was going good, well, as good as it could get, there were differences between every member’s of the family of course. Though, at the beginning they weren’t just Dallas, Degory and Eleanor; there was the middle brother, Bob. Mary, the mother, loved and held all of her children close to her heart, but it all canted after a fatidical night; in one unexpected day, one of her children died due to murder.

” M y   s o n  ,  o h   m y   s o n…  W h y   d i d   i t   h a d   t o   b e   y o u ,  o f   a l l   o f   t h e   b a d   g u y s   o u t   t h e r e… ”

After Robert’s sudden dead, Mary tried to took her mind off of the pain by doing what he knew better; farming. She did so, heavily and non-stop, thus gaining a lot of testosterone. But her pain couldn’t go away, oh no, how much she missed her son. Despite all of the remaining family support, her mind and heart wouldn’t find any peace. Out of pain and wistfulness, Mary tried to have one more child, that could possibly heal her broken heart, but since she wasn’t able to conceive healthy babies due to all of the testosterone she gained, all of her tries were in vain, since all of the babies died shortly afterwards. After some time she did regained her composure, but she became bitter, and acted viciously towards Dallas, Degory and Eleanor, as they reminder her heavily of her lovely, dead child.

At this moment of the history, is where all of the siblings parted ways in terms of development: Eleanor, since she was a woman, dedicated her time at making clothes, make her family meals, cleaning the house, etcetera, do what a woman was “supposed” to do. Degory, since he was considerably weaker and less experienced unlike Dallas, he wasn’t made to do fieldwork, thus he was sent to grammar school, giving him the opportunity to have a better job and life when he grew older. Degory, at first, was unhappy and mad, why couldn’t he do what his father and brother did? But with some time, he would end feeling happy and fulfilled that both of his parents supported the decision, also because he would lean lots, and lots of things; maths, geography, natural sciences and history, so much to learn and so little time! Excited about the outcome, he eventually started to spend more time with Dallas, expressing himself and telling his brother what he had done at school and what he had learnt. Of course, around that time Degory started to acknowledge and appreciate his brother’s philosophical ways and mind. He often thought about how he wasn’t only smart but also strong, skilled at fighting and capable. Just like Dallas, he got interested in the arts, but he soon realized, even though he liked it and found it very interesting, that it was not really something as easy to create nor do compared to more “scientific” subjects. The now middle brother Degory, soon started to look up and admire Dallas, eventually developing some kind of brother complex.

Degory’s appreciation towards his mom, despite her bursts of anger and hateful remarks, and towards his dad, despite his , slowly raised, of course it didn’t raised as much as with Dallas or Eleanor, it even could be just one-sided but he believed it wasn’t with none of his siblings. As he grew up he became your typical “good child, good student”, though he did have a slight problem of anger management due to frustration regarding certain things in his life; he did wonder about how it felt like to experiment and do other things other than study., like farming, liking someone, you know, some actual life experiences. And so, just like that, he grew up considering any activity a waste of time if not spending it to try and learn something new, a bit naive about how the real world worked and plagued with thoughts that he wasn’t good enough, that he didn’t really had any strong points.

” I   t h i n k   that   what   you   do   is   a m a z i n g   a n d   m o r e   t h a n   e n o u g h  ,  b r o t h e r. ”

Current life and Learning about the military:

Degory doesn’t really knows about his sexuality, nor he has ever felt attraction to someone nor sexually or romantically, so he’s indeed naive about relationships, how do they work, why do fights happen, how love feels, and everything that revolves a “love life”; but he wasn’t stupid, he knew he hadn’t felt anything towards a woman, but towards to a man. That scared him, it scared him so much that he wouldn’t even tell his so dear brother Dallas. Since he didn’t actually do any workforce he’s a bit weak [weak considered how strong a man should be], and would prefer to deal with problems with his intellect and tricks, he of course knows little about fighting even though he was sometimes mocked at school. Even up until now, Degory imitates Dallas on some of his habits/manners —like drinking cheap wine—, he often ask to himself “what would Dallas do?”if he encounters himself in a troubling situation. Back then his life was fairly normal, sometimes even boring, until Dallas comes up to him and tells Degory about the military and all of the possibilities out of it.

” B u t   t h e   m i l i t a r y   i s….   W h a t e v e r   y o u   d o  ,  i ‘ l l   d o   i t   w i t h   y o u. ”

Joining the military:

After Dallas told him about the unique opportunity the military offered them, after a long talk between the too, after discussing the matter, Degory said yes and went with him to join, maybe he didn’t actually thought about that his brother possibly used manipulation with him to ensure he was joining, in the end, he loved him too much to even realize, and even if he did, it would make no difference. Though, time after joining and parting with his family, he started to feel regret, since he’s worried about his family and the farm, that could collapse due to lack of man-force. Since Degory feels comfortable around Dallas and it’s totally okay for him to talk, he does shows and expresses discomfort and wistfulness to Dallas, but soon after he stops; at showing those feeling to Dallas, they start to have more fight and arguments, and because he doesn’t want to make their relationship restrained or awkward he starts to bottle everything up, at least, everything regarding home.

“ B u t   b r o t h e r  ,  a r e n ‘ t   y o u   w o r r i e d ? “

“ I   j u s t   h o p e   e v e r y o n e   i s   d o i n g   f i n e… “

“ I t ‘ s   a l r i g h t   b r o t h e r , I   d o n ‘ t   m i s s   t h e m   n o  m o r e. "
